The mighty Turkey

Just in case you were wondering what the river behind our house looked like.  We had over 4 inches of rain in about two hours.

I panicked for about an hour after I got home.  Jer was busy at work and couldn't answer, and I just wanted to take the boys and Elke and run for the hills.  Thankfully my Dad answered and told me to stay put. Such a smart man. :)

So we watched and we waited.  I never really worried about the river coming near the house.  I was more worried about washouts and lightning and the flickering of electricity.  That was one heck of a storm.

By morning, the river was up higher than when we fell asleep, but we could see by the marks on the trees that it had already receded about a foot.

So Mother Nature, I think we are ready for some sun!

End of school year treats

Tomorrow is Landon's last day of preschool.  I don't know whether to rejoice that he did so well, or cry because he's growing up right in front of my eyes.  Pretty much the same feelings I had on his first day of school.  You can recap his first day of preschool here
All feelings aside, it was time to celebrate Landon's last day of preschool.  We have special plans for tomorrow night, but in the mean time we prepared some special treats for his friends.
I found this idea on pinterest, but changed it up a little bit.  Here are the supplies we started with.

Here is the link to the KOOL summer printable.

Wishing you all a KOOL summer!

Bonding time {at the shop}

It's not often we hang out as a family in Daddy's shop.  But this long, rainy weekend had us itchen to get out of the house.
Daddy got some new tires  wheels (Daddy corrected me!) that needed like a gazillion bolts put in them, so we got to work...

All in all, it only took an hour or so.  The boys managed to keep the dirt to their hands and clothes and we had a little change of scenery.  Looks good don't ya think?
 Daddy's happy, so we're happy!

Walking on Prairie Farmer Trail

I'm hoping this post will fight away any rain they are predicting for here this Memorial Day weekend.  I would love to take some time to hit the trail again.
A few weeks ago the boys and I met up with my sister-in-law Cathy and the kids for a little walk on the Prairie Farmer Trail.  We ended up going about 3 miles total.  This was Landon's longest distance with his bike.  Boy was he tired that night!  It was good practice, because I can't wait to take our bikes out on the trail.

Water study

A couple weeks ago, Landon's class conducted a water study.  They study on these topics for as long as the kids are interested.  I think they were on this study for a few weeks before moving on sports and exercise which they are just now bringing to a close.

At the end of their water study, Mrs. Dibble invited family and friends to come to the school for water Olympics.  I jumped at the opportunity to join them, and had so much fun.

During the course of the afternoon, the kids moved around to different work stations.  I was at the station of colored water.  The kids got to use straws to move the water around on wax paper.  Not a lot of the colored water was drank thanks to my hands on supervising skills. ;)

As a thanks for coming the kids sent me a signed thank you.  How sweet!
And Landon's version of the water cycle.

Date night

On Friday night, my Mom watched the boys while Jer and I went on a date.  We are trying to do a date just the two of us once a month.  Gosh I love date nights with this guy.  Sushi, a walk on the trail in Phelps park, drinks and live music at Toppling Goliath and back home with the boys by 8:30.  After the boys were tucked in, we even grabbed some blankets to snuggle up and stargaze on the upper deck for an hour or so.  It doesn't get any better than this...

Weekend wedding

This past weekend, we traveled to North Liberty to attend my cousin Melissa's wedding.
The wedding was so cute in a little country church setting and as the evening went on, it continued to be just as perfect.
I packed a bag of toys and let the kids have fun on the dance floor while we waited for the reception to begin.  I think we made the DJ a little nervous. ;)

Here is a photo of me and a few of my girl cousins.  We all have the middle name Lynn, so growing up we were always referred to as the "Lynn Sisters."  Melissa is the last "Lynn Sister" to get married.
Me and my groom almost 10 years after saying I do!
And the two children God has blessed us with.
It was a fun and tiring weekend.  The hotel stay was a little less than stellar.  A couple little league teams and a bunch of drunks led to a not-so-happy two year old trying to sleep while they ran the hallway and had a party in the next door room.  But it was fun to spend the weekend with our family, and we've seemed to recoup just fine this week.  Cheers to Mark and Melissa!
